What would you do if you were completely unsupervised at your job?

Maybe you would relish the alone time, or maybe you would wonder what you were doing there in the first place. It can be nice to take the pressure off of being watched all the time, but when your boss holds themselves to such a different standard than they do you, that can be hard to swallow. If you're making a lot less money than the folks higher up than you in the company, then you probably expect that they're working harder than you. You probably know on some level that it's a lie, but you expect at least the veneer of hard work. The person in this story, who shared their woes on the antiwork subreddit, felt a little miffed at this disparity.

You probably expect that the people who you work with are working as hard as you, if not harder. It's bad for morale if it feels like one person is pulling all the weight while others coast along, even if that other person is the boss. The person in this story, though, certainly did not feel like this was the case. Their boss had a habit of cutting out early a lot of the time- not to do anything important, but to play golf. When you're the boss, these are the kinds of decisions you can make for yourself. But where does that leave your employees?

My boss clocked out for the day to go golfing... again

My boss (who also owns the company) left today at 1:00pm to go golfing with his buddies. He does this pretty often. There are only three of us at the company.. me, my boss, and a delivery diver who only works about one day every other week. So when my boss leaves, I'm the only one in the office for the rest of the afternoon. I started this job 1 month ago.

I know he's the owner and I understand that comes with flexibility, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me feel a little resentful or envious while I'm sitting here working for the rest of the day.

It's never a good idea to visibly slack off in front of the people you work with. It just makes everyone lose their sense of urgency. But the employee in this story wondered if he could use that to his advantage, given the lack of supervision he had at his job. Sure, he probably had tasks he had to do, but could he just kick off and enjoy his time with nobody at the wheel?
